News: Japan In Love With Wii

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/31/2006 02:56:00 PM 0 comments
Japanese-language game and entertainment magazine Famitsu found that 88 percent of their readers believe that the PlayStation 3 is too expensive, with 69 percent saying that that they are most looking forward to the Nintendo Wii this fall and winter. In the quest for who gets to be #2 in Japan, 21 percent said that they were looking forward to the PS3, while only 7 percent cited the Xbox 360. Peter Moore can't be happy about that.

If interested, you can continue to read the rest here.

Not only japaneses because i though it's also too expensive for a console. Most of us will try to get something affordable for sure. Just because they use Blu-ray disc, that's doesn't mean they can rise the price like this. Even in Japan, they are little bit concerned about the price before they get their hands on it.

News: Software Pirated Over 35% Worldwide

35% of the packaged software installed on personal computers (PC) worldwide in 2005 was illegal, amounting to $34 bln in global losses due to software piracy. Piracy rates decreased moderately in more than half (51) of the 97 countries, and increased in only 19. The global rate was unchanged from 2004 to 2005 as large developed markets like the United States, Western Europe, Japan and a handful of Asian countries continue to dominate the software market while their combined piracy rate hardly moved.

News: HD DVD Goes Interactive

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/28/2006 04:05:00 PM 0 comments
HD DVD had a less than impressive start. Few players were available in stores, with the next batch not expected to arrive for another week or so, and the choice of movie titles was a rather sobering experience for movie enthusiasts. And we are not even talking about the fact, that there was only the lower-end player for sale and less known circumstance that these $500 and soon to surface $800 device cannot even playback movies in 1080p, but only in the inferior 1080i resolution.

On the technical side it appears that HD DVD will be at a clear disadvantage to the more expensive, but 1080p capable Blu-ray players that are promised to go on sale in the last week of June. But it's not always the technology that decides the fate of such a device and at least for now, HD DVD appears to be gaining steam on the content and marketing side.

Continue to read the rest at TGdaily.

I must admit that Blu-ray is greater since you can hold more stuffs in it but the price is always the main key when you have to buy a new system for your entertainment.

News: Web Toll

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/25/2006 05:35:00 PM 0 comments
What if the Internet were like cable television, with Web sites grouped like channels into either basic or premium offerings? What if a few big companies decided which sites loaded quickly and which ones slowly, or not at all, on your computer? Welcome to the brave new Web, brought to you by Verizon, Bell South, AT&T and the other telecommunications giants (including PopSci’s parent company, Time Warner) that are now lobbying Congress to block laws that would prevent a two-tiered Internet, with a fast lane for Web sites able to afford it and a slow lane for everyone else.

Specifically, such companies want to charge Web sites for the speedy delivery of streaming video, television, movies and other high-bandwidth data to their customers. If they get their way (Congress may vote on the matter before the year is out), the days of wide-open cyberspace are numbered.

News: Technology Use To Put Ads In Games

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/23/2006 07:40:00 PM 0 comments
In-game advertising -- a marketing frontier long on the periphery of most brands' radar -- is poised to take its place center stage.

As Madison Avenue increasingly abandons TV and radio, the rich graphics and Internet connectivity of today's PC games and next-generation gaming consoles are enabling advertisers to follow the 18-34 "sweet spot" target market to videogames.

In-game advertising takes many forms, most notably as product placement. Marketers can pay to have billboards with their brands on them appear as background scenescapes, logos on racetrack boards or sports stadium walls.

Situational placement is on the rise as well, such as using real vehicle models in racing game options or having characters consume specific soft drink brands. To date, these placements have been static, meaning the deal was made during the game development process with the visuals hard-coded into the final product. The technology will soon become much more dynamic -- providing the ability to replace the in-game visuals, music or other content at will through the Internet.

Full article can be found here.

Well, everyone need to make money so i don't really mind on ads in games but just blend it like it was a feature in the game, in that way it won't annoy while we are playing.

News: Some PS3's Titles Will Be Delayed To 2007

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/20/2006 06:16:00 PM 0 comments
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO David Reeves has revealed several key PS3 launch titles including Heavenly Sword, Formula One and Motostorm, will miss the November 17 launch day on PS3 and now appear in 2007.

However, Reeves also revealed that the company plans to cast a wide net during the initial PS3 launch window, saying that "for the first time we are not going to go just for hardcore gamers".

Speaking exclusively to CVG at E3, Reeves explained that Sony is "going to have a portfolio of social gaming" for the launch window, Singstar and EyeToy an integral part of this battleplan. It's not clear whether Singstar on PS3 will be out on launch day, but it'll hit "certainly before Christmas", said Reeves, with "an EyeToy one [game] after Christmas". He added: "EyeToy is not playable at the moment, but it will come before March 2007."

Continue to read here.

That could hurt a little bit since we are all waiting for Heavenly Sword, which i think is a great game by the trailer and gameplay we saw in the E3.

News: 200 GB DVD With Six Layers

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/19/2006 02:30:00 PM 0 comments
TDK Japan has developed a prototyped recordable Blu-ray disc with a stunning capacity of 200GB. This new disc boasts eight times the capacity of a single layer Blu-ray disc. TDK has used a signal processing scheme to increase the capacity per layer to 33GB. The prototyped medium has a layered structure in which the recording layers are formed from the bottom L0 layer to top L5 layer, and a 0.1 mm cover layer and a hard coat layer to protect the medium from scratches and dirt are stacked on these recording layers. As for the L0 layer, an inorganic material, i.e. a commercialized Si-Cu alloy layer is used. For the L1 to L5 layers, a novel inorganic material consisting of bismuth peroxide and germanium oxide is employed. When bismuth peroxide is irradiated with laser light, oxygen is deposited to form air bubbles when the temperature reaches 690 K. The presence or absence of these air bubbles is detected based on the difference in reflectance of the laser light.

You can read the rest at Newslaunches.

Imagine you can put anything you want and carry like a super HDD in a tiny DVD with this new technology. Well, the price will be high for just one of them so maybe we will all wait for a price drop or else, one will serve enough for years.

To that end he lands on an island solely populated by whores and their masters. He's solicited by a syphilitic tout (played by Mame Yamada, last seen in Nine Souls and always just as welcome as Ren Osugi and Taro Suwa, who also seem to pop up in movies when you least expect them) who claims not to have seen Komomo, but reckons he should enter the brothel anyway as he's got to spend the night somewhere. Christopher agrees, and asks for the company of a girl he'd seen lurking in the shadows at the back of the room where the prostitutes solicit for business.

News: Microsoft And Yahoo Will Soon Catch Up Adsense

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/17/2006 04:19:00 PM 0 comments
The Internet search-advertising wars are getting hotter: Vowing to catch up to industry leader Google (GOOG), Yahoo (YHOO) Monday will demonstrate an overhauled advertising system that promises to generate higher revenue and enlist more clients.

On May 4, Microsoft (MSFT) unveiled its own search advertising program and said it would invest up to $6 billion in a bid to catch up with Google.

Yet Google still easily dominates paid search ads - those little text ads that appear near search queries. The Internet powerhouse has made several enhancements to its search program as well.

Google says it hasn't heard anything from Yahoo or MSN to make it worry.

"There's been nothing that's announced that makes me want to change what we do," says Richard Holden, director of production management for Google's paid search programs.

Google brought in over $1 billion in profits in the first quarter primarily from text-based ads. Advertisers love search ads because they pay only if someone clicks on them. Holden says Google stays on top by upgrading its AdWords search program every two weeks to bring in new clients or to give existing ones more options.

The full article can be found here.

This is gonna be interesting when MSN will launch their own Publishers Programs which i expected around in the end of this year. I am sure with MSN, we will have more advertisers since MSN network isn't only a search engine, there are many other businesses running with it.

Synopsis
Kwon Sang Woo and Kim Ha Neul, the popular stars of 2003's hit film My Tutor Friend reunite for writer/director Lee Han's 2005 romantic comedy, Almost Love! The two actors play Ji Hwan and Dal Rae, a pair of friends who grew up together in the same neighborhood and have been platonic pals ever since childhood. While Taekwondo student turned stuntman, Ji Hwan (Kwon Sang Woo) wishes to follow in the footsteps of his hero, action movie icon Jackie Chan, drama student Dal Rae (Kim Ha Neul) would like nothing more than to become an actress, although her eternal shyness during the audition process continually prevents her from landing any plum acting roles.

Although the two of them bicker incessantly, there's a mischievous, altogether playful quality to their arguments, and as the film develops, it becomes clear that they are great friends with a deep affection for one another. However, their friendship takes a turn for the worse when they each begin dating other people: Dal Rae starts seeing a handsome, athletic young man who happens to be a fellow member of Ji Hwan's Taekwondo group, while Ji Hwan himself begins going out with a gorgeous young woman with a figure to die for. It would seem that there shouldn't be any issue between these two about dating other people, but as soon as they embark on these new relationships, things start to get weird for these once good friends! It seems that everybody knows their relationship is so much more than friendship, except Ji Hwan and Dal Rae themselves! Will they figure out their own feelings in time, before it's too late?

News: The Next Thing In Monitors

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/13/2006 09:24:00 PM 0 comments
What flat panel screens were to CRT, OLED monitors will be to flat panels -- and then some. Imagine a display sharper, thinner, and less expensive than you can get from a flat panel monitor. They're still over the horizon, but jkabaseball gives you the lowdown on OLED's bright future.

CRT monitors were the first consumer monitor. They are big, but offer great performance. Then along came LCD monitors. They are a lot thinner, but priced higher. Their performance isn't great, and decent performance costs a lot more. Take Apple’s monitors for example, they are among the best in the industry, but can cost over $2000.

Now imagine a screen better than that, thinner than that, and even less expensive. Sounds too good to be true? With OLED technology making its way into screens, this is what we can expect. OLED monitors are still on the horizon, but smaller devices sporting OLED screens are starting to trickle down into the market. Let’s take a look at what OLED is and how we will benefit from them.

You can read the rest of the article here.

Something more greater than LCD without to have a big pocket to get? I must own it when my LCD isn't working anymore.

News: 694 Million People Online Worlwide

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/07/2006 03:57:00 PM 0 comments
The report by research firm comScore Networks claims to be "the first true estimate of global online audience size and behavior" using consistent methodology.

The estimate was based on a survey of major markets including China and India.

"Today, the online audience in the US represents less than a quarter of Internet users across the globe, versus 10 years ago when it accounted for two-thirds of the global audience," said Peter Daboll, president and chief executive of comScore Media Metrix.

According to the report, the United States still had the single largest Internet audience, of 152 million users, followed by China with 72 million.

The figures differ from some other surveys and official data -- China for example is believed to have over 100 million Web users -- because the comScore data excludes those under 15 or those accessing the Internet from cybercafes, mobile phones or digital assistants.

Third on the list was Japan with 52 million users, followed by Germany (32 million) and Britain (30 million).

Full article can be read via this link.

Well, the percentage is still low since there are places that can't use Internet but rest assure that in the future, everyone will have access to this technology (i hope so!).

News: AMD Versus Intel In Power Consumption

Posted by shadow20002 at 5/04/2006 09:35:00 PM 0 comments
Advanced Micro Devices is turning up the heat on rival Intel by turning down the power.

AMD CEO Hector Ruiz welcomed Dell Inc. as the newest member of The Green Grid, a group of companies seeking to reduce power consumption in data centers.

During a keynote speech here kicking off the 2006 World Congress on Information Technology, Ruiz said Dell joins Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard and IBM—all of which have used AMD’s Opteron processor for servers which AMD claims consume less power than servers based on Intel processors.

The announcement prompted renewed speculation that Dell may be in the process of creating servers based on the Opteron processors, a reversal of Dell’s current "Intel-only" policy.

Continue here if any interested.

Are AMD leading for now and the future? Time will tell.
